Low-Cost Treatment Options in Pasadena

Pasadena has a robust number of affordable addiction treatment centers in Harris County, which is not something we can say about every suburb listed in our directory. Six of the programs in our directory are inside the city limits, and most of the outpatient programs accept Medicaid. In other words, you can begin treatment in your local area without traveling to Houston.

The Fairmont Parkway corridor is where most of the centers are located. Bay Area Recovery Center and Positive Recovery Centers both run outpatient and partial hospitalization programs and both list Medicaid and financial aid. Unlimited Visions Aftercare on Preston Avenue does the same. However, two clinics in Pasadena specialize in medication assisted treatment where you can self-pay. Pasadena Substance Abuse Clinic on Pasadena Boulevard and Houston Substance Abuse Clinic on Spencer Highway allow daily medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) paid out-of-pocket. If you need MOUD covered, ask the OSAR screener below, or ask Be Well Texas, which arranges MAT statewide regardless of your ability to pay.

For detox or residential care, the nearest option that takes public funding is Cenikor in Deer Park, which lists Medicaid, Medicare, TRICARE and financial aid. Before you commit to any of it, consider the free options. The Council on Recovery runs the Region 6 Outreach, Screening, Assessment and Referral office (OSAR) for Harris County, where a licensed counselor assesses you at no cost and refers to state-funded treatment based on need.

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD, the county’s public behavioral health authority, has the nearest substance use clinic on Long Drive in southeast Houston. The clinic works on a sliding scale, and states that it does not deny services to people who cannot pay.

Two Pasadena-specific factors are worth knowing. The Harris Center operates school-based clinics inside more than a dozen Pasadena ISD campuses, including Pasadena High School, Sam Rayburn, South Houston High School and several middle schools. This is often the shortest path for a family. BACODA, the Bay Area Council on Drugs and Alcohol, runs the state-funded Pasadena Community Coalition and offers a free alcohol use assessment with a licensed chemical dependency counselor.

They also provide prescription drop-box locations and the court-ordered drug offender education class. If Spanish is your language your language of choice, 2-1-1 Texas, the SAMHSA National Helpline and the Houston Area NA helpline are all bilingual.

Free Addiction Treatment Resources in Pasadena

Free Treatment Score: 6.2/10. This score is calculated for the Houston metro area, in which Pasadena is found.

  • Treatment availability: Good. Pasadena carries an unusually high share of the metro’s affordable outpatient capacity for a city its size, with detox and residential care a short drive east.
  • Coverage and legal support: Limited. Texas has not expanded Medicaid, so some low-income working adults in Pasadena do not qualify for free coverage.
  • Local cost of care: Lower than average. Care across the Houston metro runs slightly below national rates, and the free and sliding-scale routes below do not track local prices anyway.
  • Harm reduction access: Active. Free naloxone reaches any Pasadena address by mail and through pharmacies, though Texas law does not allow syringe services programs.

The score reads middling because it describes the entire metro area, and Pasadena does better than the average within it. Pasadena has a range of Medicaid-accepting outpatient providers. This is the level of care most people need and the one that is usually hardest to find close to home. What Pasadena lacks is a free-standing detox, so plan on receiving treatment in Deer Park or east Houston if withdrawal management is the first step in your addiction treatment plan. There are low-cost treatment options in Texas if nothing here fits.

Both Pasadena clinics built for opioid treatment are self-pay, and the cost of daily dosing adds up fast. This means anyone considering methadone or buprenorphine should start with the free OSAR screening or Be Well Texas rather than assuming the nearest clinic is the affordable option.

Naloxone Texas ships free naloxone to any address in the county with training included to support overdose prevention. This is important in a refinery city where people work shifts and live alone. Free peer support is close by too. Pasadena is in Al-Anon District 16, and the Houston Intergroup can point you to the nearest group. Learn more about our Free Treatment Score methodology.
