The Centers for Independence has multiple programs that benefit residents in the Milwaukee area. They have behavioral health treatment that includes supportive case management and housing services, as well as employment services such as skill development, job placement, and coaching for those with barriers to work. Centers for Independence is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC).
Peer-Run Respites
Wisconsin has several peer-run respites throughout the state that provide support, encouragement, and an overnight stay to those experiencing stress or symptoms from mental health or substance use concerns. Each center has peer recovery specialists that can help visitors stabilize and work through their concerns.

Appointments can be held in person or virtually. They also have a reflection space to pray, meditate, or relax and a Live Free student club that promotes wellbeing and peer support for those in recovery.

The Mental Health America of Wisconsin PRISM Program provides a peer support warmline staffed with peers from the LGBTQ+ community who can offer mental health support and information for youth. You can call or text the number. They are certified peer specialists who use their experiences and struggles to support others and there are online and in person support groups as well.
Wisconsin Hero Outdoors
The Wisconsin Hero Outdoors supports veterans and first responders with outdoor activities to address the physical and mental health challenges brought on by their jobs. They work with the VA and other veteran focused organizations, and they also offer small group and individual outings. Wisconsin Hero Outdoors offers a wide range of activities for everyone, including golf, SCUBA diving, equestrian programs, fishing, kayaking, and more.
