About Psychology Center
The Psychology Center is located in Madison, Wisconsin. This facility offers outpatient treatment to adolescents and adults who are struggling with mental health disorders and co-occurring conditions like substance abuse. They’ve been providing services in and around Dane County since 1989 and are recognized as one of the largest mental health clinics in the region.
As the state capital, Madison is known for its great outdoor recreation and thriving cultural scene. When you’re not in treatment, you can engage in nature therapy by visiting some of the city’s green spaces, like Elver Park. There’s also a lively academic scene thanks to the University of Wisconsin–Madison and lots of yummy farm-to-table restaurants nearby.
At the Psychology Center, they specialize in many different kinds of therapy, including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Sessions are available for individuals, groups and families. They also offer comprehensive testing and assessment services to help kids, teens and adults address a range of behavioral and mental health issues. A unique thing about this facility is that their evaluations span beyond typical diagnoses and can also help families address issues like ADHD, career challenges, custody and divorce settlements and even forensic topics.
The adult DBT group is called Fearless Living. In this six-month group, you’ll learn the practical skills necessary to handle conflicts and big emotions in a healthy way. Your therapists will show you how to communicate effectively, deal with stress, and navigate distressing situations. There’s a robust aftercare program available for anyone who’s completed two rounds of this group.
Adolescents attend the Breakthrough group. This is a DBT-based group that meets for 15 weeks. It covers the same concepts, but at an age-appropriate level. Parents of kids in this group can attend a separate DBT Parenting Skills Workshop so they can reinforce the lessons their kids are learning.
