Providence Alaska Medical Center Adult Inpatient Mental Health Unit treats addictions to alcohol, cocaine, opioids, amphetamines, methamphetamines, prescription medications, marijuana, and hallucinogens. Chemical dependency is viewed by the Mental Health Unit’s staff to be a primary, progressive, chronic disease and it is treated as such by the staff.

The Mental Health Team includes specialists in psychological, social, physical, and spiritual care. They combine their skills to design a treatment plan that fits the patient’s needs for both immediate and ongoing care. Patients can self-refer to substance abuse programs, be referred by a friend, or be referred by a medical professional.
