About Northside Center for Child Development

The Northside Center for Child Development offers many services, including intensive substance abuse support and rehabilitation for families. Many of their services are focused on helping children overcome developmental and behavioral challenges. They're located in New York, New York, and are surrounded by several parks and the Graffiti Hall of Fame.

The center was founded and has a special interest in fighting the effects of poverty and racism on behavioral health. This is especially true for self esteem, and elevating individuals by showing them their self worth is an important part of what they do.

What I like is that Project Care follows a step down model. Rather than simply ending once you've shown sufficient improvement, it becomes less intensive. You'll go from meeting three or so times a week to a prolonged period of monitoring. It's a nice way to engage the need for continuing care.

A Leader In New York Creative Arts Therapy

Despite the city having an abundance of influence on art, creative arts therapy isn't commonplace in New York. The Northside Center uses it for children and adults as a tool to ease stress and express themselves. It's also a safe way to explore trauma in all ages.

I think art therapy can make people feel more invested in treatment. Adults may feel more engaged because they're doing something more than just talking, and kids can express how they're feeling without words. It's a beautiful tool to have!

Helping Troubled Teens Correct Course

The Youth Groups program may not be a traditional treatment, but I feel it's worth mentioning because it's still tremendously beneficial. Teens at legal risk through negative behaviors may be deferred to this program, where you'll have the chance to develop positive behavioral changes through various events and referrals to community resources.
