About Howard House

Howard House in Ellicott City, Maryland, is a halfway house with 15 beds for men who are recovering from addiction. It’s one of several transitional programs offered by Tuerk House. If you’ve already completed detox and are looking for a lower level of support, they may be a good fit.

They accept most major insurance plans such as Medicaid, Medicare, CareFirst, Cigna, and Kaiser. They help everyone struggling with addiction even if you can’t pay.

Howard House offers two levels of residential care: medium and low intensity. The medium intensity level is for adults who need lots of structure to help them get and stay sober. At this level, you’ll have 24/7 care and support as well as daily individual and group therapy sessions.

The low intensity residential treatment is for those people who need a sober and structured environment but don’t need daily treatment. At this level, you’d still get 24/7 structure and living support but not daily therapy sessions. You’d get at least five hours of clinical services which could include individual and group sessions and other therapeutic activities. They also schedule off-campus educational, vocational or community activities. So this level has a bit more flexibility.

Both levels of care will have case management. Your case worker will help you get your needs met whether it is housing, employment, transportation or other needs you may have.

At Howard House, you’ll share a bedroom with one other resident and have access to a range of amenities including a well equipped kitchen. Lights are out at 8:00pm as the treatment day ends.
