About Ho Chunk Nation Behavioral Health
The Ho-Chunk Nation (HCN) Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) is based in Baraboo, Wisconsin, at the House of Wellness, 2845 S.White Eagle Road. This outpatient drug, alcohol and mental health services facility serves HCN tribal members and other federally recognized tribes across the region.
Mind and Body Healing Backs by Experts
The licensed team of providers at HCN-DBH includes substance abuse counselors, social workers, peer support specialists and an advanced practice pharmacist, providing a well-rounded, expert-led approach.
As the name suggests, “wellness” is truly reflected in the variety of equipment and activities available to clients. During visits, clients can utilize cardio machines, free weights, an indoor walking track, a racquetball court, a therapy pool, a sauna and a steam room.
Blending Ancestral Wisdom With Today’s Best Practices
I’m particularly impressed by how DBH integrates culturally focused beliefs and traditions into treatment, recognizing that healing isn’t just medical, it’s spiritual too. That tribal recognition gives clients a foundation that honors who they are as they work toward recovery.
HCN-DBH integrates traditional Ho-Chunk values with modern best care practices, including dual-diagnosis therapy and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to help manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
They also support harm reduction, with free Narcan, syringe exchange and educational resources to guide their path to sobriety. HCN-DBH accepts a variety of payment options, including Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, self-pay and contract care funds.
