About Freedom Institute
Based in New York City, Freedom Institute is a not-for-profit mental health and substance abuse treatment center that offers care to adults and families, regardless of gender, race, or sexuality.
Something I appreciate about this facility is its acknowledgment of the huge role family plays in addiction. For this reason, family support is a huge element of their treatment. This manifests in methods like psychodrama, which helps individuals play out their past, present, and craft an image of how they might like their future to look. This is done by exploring the many roles that play out in their life, as well as how they cope with various situations. This method blends elements of dialectical behavior therapy, 12 Step philosophy, and even mindfulness. Remember that you also don’t go it alone. Family therapy and support groups are also an option.
Other therapy options provided here include cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy, couples therapy, and individual and group therapy. Their intensive outpatient program also includes regular drug testing and assessments, processing groups, psychoeducation, meditation, as well as yoga. In this way, clients can benefit from a holistic approach to recovery. Aftercare is also available to help ensure an effective long-term recovery for all.
