About Community Behavioral Health
Community Behavioral Health offers substance use and co-occurring mental health disorder treatment as well as some supportive services. The facility is on Eastern Shore Drive in suburban Salisbury, Maryland. It’s an outpatient behavioral health treatment center accredited by The Joint Commission. I noticed that they’re in network with quite a few insurance providers, including TRICARE and some Medicare plans.
Getting Treatment for Co-Occurring Disorders in Salisbury
One of the elements of the program I like is the medication assisted treatment (MAT). Clients can receive MAT as well as psychiatric medication management for co-occurring mental health disorders. The substance use and mental health treatment programs include partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and outpatient mental health therapy.
The PHP runs up to 36 hours of treatment per week, while the IOP is up to 20 hours per week. The PHP is a great program for people who can’t commit to a full inpatient program but need a lot of structure and support during the week. With less of a time commitment, the IOP offers flexibility for clients who need to work or go to school during the week.
The programs include several therapy modalities such as individual, couples, and family therapy. They use play therapy, mindfulness, cognitive (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), an address trauma.
Additional Services in Wicomico County
I thought it was great to see that they offer telepsychiatry services for the blind and deaf in Wicomico County. The program is run through a collaboration with Gallaudet University.
One of their more unique services they offer is buccal swab testing. Buccal testing helps providers determine what medications will work best for you based on your genetic profile. The testing works for pharmacological medications for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), attention deficit disorder, and narcolepsy.
There’s also a psychiatric rehabilitation program (PRP) that provides case managers to help clients with their treatment goals. Services include employment, housing, self care and social skills, wellness practices, and money management.
Salisbury also has some local attractions that can distract you from stress and frustrations. The Zoological Park is within driving range as are public pools and greenspaces.
