About Sawyer County Information and Referral Center

Hayward, Wisconsin, is the county seat of Sawyer County. It’s also where you’ll find the Sawyer County Information and Referral Center, which provides outpatient counseling for mental health and substance use disorders. They also have crisis support services, OWI assessments and Comprehensive Community Services (CCS).

To pay for services, you can use Medicaid coverage, and you can use Medicare and private insurance plans as well. Some programs, like CCS, require that participants be on Medicaid.

Outpatient Treatment for Dual Diagnosis

The Information and Referral Center provides direct services, including individual and group counseling for mental health and addiction issues. They have an intensive outpatient program (IOP) for substance use disorders and can provide court-ordered as well as voluntary treatment.

OWI Assessments

They also have OWI assessments, which determine what kind of education and/or treatment the court will require you to complete. The evaluation results in a Driver Safety Plan that includes your classes and treatment protocol.

Comprehensive Community Services Program

The CCS program provides help for those with mental illness and/or addiction issues who need additional support to live independently. I was impressed by the variety of services available under this program. Clients have access to psychoeducation, life and employment skill building, addiction treatment, peer support and medication management among other services.

Coordinated Services Teams for Youth

One unique program that stood out to me was their Coordinated Service Teams (CST). This is a wraparound care system for youth involved in multiple types of care, such as substance use services, juvenile justice, mental health treatment and CCS.

CST delivers a strength and needs assessment and then assembles a team to create a care plan and connect youth and their families to community resources and service providers to fulfill it. They also prepare a crisis support plan. This allows the family to access integrated care and get a good understanding of what their child needs, so the CST can eventually step back and the parents can continue the care process.
