About Benilde Hall
Benilde Hall is a nonprofit located in Kansas City, Missouri. They offer supportive services to men who are struggling with substance abuse, homelessness, and/or mental health conditions. They provide transitional and permanent housing. For veterans, they also offer housing as well as emergency housing. There’s also reentry programs, medication management, counseling, and individual treatment plans.
Their transitional housing offers space for belongings to be stored and bunker beds with the availability of housing one hundred ten occupants and shared bedrooms ranging between six to twelve men per room. Requirements to stay include stable income, total abstinence from substances, and a plan to move into a more stable housing environment. Checking in with your counselors and working on your treatment plan along with attending group therapy is available and a requirement.
The Matt Talbot apartments are owned by Benilde Hall and are permanent housing. This is an option for men who completed transitional housing and are actively engaged in aftercare, maintaining their sobriety, making rent payments, and becoming mentors to other men in the communtiy.
What sticks out to me is that they’re one of the very few places throughout the nation to utilize SAMHSA adult reentry program grants. When you’re seeking guidance after being incarcerated, it can be discouraging and understandably upsetting due to lack of resources. Here, they assist with providing adult reentry and recovery programs specifically for addiction struggles. This helps cover job training, housing assistance, mental health treatment, local and community resources linkage to help smoothen the transition and ongoing journey of recovery.
Their VA’s grant per diem GPD program is designed to help veterans experiencing a multitude of challenges that can impact their journey of healing. The program covers case management services grants and provides an opportunity for veterans to have stability, gain stronger self resilience and helps increase financial income opportunities.
