About Bastrop Hope House

Bastrop Hope House is a nonprofit, faith based recovery program in Bastrop, Texas, for women living with substance use disorder. It is a one year program that combines Biblical study with mentorship with the end goal of helping participants develope the skills and characteristics needed to achieve and maintain stability.

What I find great about this program is that it includes vocational training. You'll get the chance to develop real world experience working at the location's thrift store.

This location accepts some insurance plans. Residents must also pay a monthly $300 fee to stay in the program.

Working Toward Life Goals

Besides the program's faith based approach to recovery, you'll find that they support you in achieving long term goals that support your independence. For example, staff will assist you in getting your GED or attending higher education classes. They also help residents get their driver's licenses.

I like this kind of support because these successes all add up in recovery. Besides feeling better about yourself, hitting things like education goals can open up new opportunities in employment. It all goes toward building stability in recovery.

Fellowship Through Volunteering

In addition to the mentorship you can receive in this facility, you'll have the chance to participate in volunteer opportunities. These put you out in the community so that you can help others with their challenges. It's a great social experience that's also very rewarding.

I think volunteering is an overlooked aspect of recovery, and I like that this program embraces it. Having a sense of purpose and self worth can lower the chance of relapse. It can also serve to build connections with the community, which also helps sustain sobriety in the long term.

Bonding and Relaxation in the Great Outdoors

Residents at Bastrop Hope House participate in regular outdoor activities during their stay. These trips include things like hiking and kayaking, all overseen by staff. It's a nice break from the regular schedule of activities, and it can't be argued that fun now and then can encourage continuing treatment.

Just as important to me is the chance to bond with other residents outside of treatment. Since you're on the recovery journey together, they're likely to relate to some of your experiences. The friendships you form in treatment can carry on well after the program ends and can strengthen everyone involved.
