About YSS Family Counseling and Clinic
The YSS Family Counseling Center in Ames, Iowa is one of many locations in Story County. They have outpatient counseling for a variety of issues including substance use and mental health issues. They also offer OWI evaluations.
The Family Counseling Center can also refer you to other YSS services in Story County, such as the youth shelter and two residential treatment programs. There are also summer and afterschool programs for young people.
Multiple Approaches to Mental Health and Addiction Support
Addiction and mental health care are available for all ages. This includes assessments and counseling. The counseling uses a variety of evidence based approaches, including play therapy and parent-child interaction therapy for young children as well as trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and multi-dimensional family therapy for older youth and adults.
There is also a substance abuse group for adults that meets at the Family Counseling Center once a week. This group allows you to learn from others and realize that you’re not alone in your journey. You’ll also be able to practice your new skills and learn to build relationships.
Mentorship and Support For Creating a Better Life in Story County
One of the YSS programs I like best is the school based mentoring program. This program serves youth in grades K through 8 in Ames and several other communities. Mentors helps youth talk through concerns and make healthy choices.
Another program that helps people get back on their feet is the OWI education program. This course meets court requirements that help Iowans get their licenses back after an OWI. The goal is to help participants understand the consequences of their choices and avoid reoffending.
