Although there’s a misconception that “shock therapy” is barbaric and painful, nowadays it is actually very safe and performed while patients are under mild anesthesia, so they don’t feel uncomfortable. It can be very helpful for people with conditions like depression or schizophrenia who haven’t had luck with standard treatments such as medications and counseling.
