About Volunteers of America Fresh Start Recovery Center – Indianapolis

Volunteers of America Fresh Start Recovery Center Theodora House is a family focused residential treatment program for mothers and their children affected by substance misuse, especially opioid use disorder. This program is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. Their conducive and supportive environment enables moms to focus on their recovery without distractions. The goal is to break the cycle of addiction in families, enhance health outcomes and support the birth of healthy babies. They primarily serve pregnant women and mothers affected by substance misuse.

The great thing about this program is that they allow moms to live with their children while receiving treatment at the facility. You can expect to receive 24/7 personalized and trauma informed care rooted in clinically proven models. Their experts are grounded in trauma informed care, gender responsive therapy and motivational interviewing. They’re also knowledgeable about crib safety, age appropriate activities for children and recognizing warning signs of abuse. Emphasis is on ‘whole family’ recovery.

Services encompass medication assisted treatment (MAT), intensive outpatient care and recovery peer support. Medication assisted treatment is the most effective clinical model for treating addiction to opioids, alcohol and stimulants. The technique uses meds approved by the FDA alongside counseling and behavioral therapies to support recovery. The meds minimize withdrawal symptoms and curb cravings while counseling addresses the psychological aspect of your opioid use. This ensures a well rounded recovery.

They also provide parenting and life skills development, family/couple counseling and education on pregnancy and childbirth. This helps moms build the skills they need for a healthy family life. Childcare is a crucial part of this program, and they ensure that children are well cared for while their mothers focus on recovery. They provide mental healthcare and will offer referrals to medical and psychiatric care if necessary.

They also offer court advocacy services for both DCS/family court and criminal court. This enables you to navigate the legal system while focusing on recovery.

They also provide aftercare community integration and case management services. The latter includes connection to community resources including safe housing and vocational training.

This program meets ASAM level 3.5 and is accredited by CARF. This indicates that they meet high standards of care for addiction treatment.
