About Volunteers of America Fresh Start Recovery Center Theodora House

Volunteers of America’s Fresh Start Recovery Center, or the Theodora House, is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. This location serves mothers and their children who have been touched by mental health or substance use disorders. They also provide care to expectant mothers. You’ll find a range of supports here including evidence based treatments. Most importantly, you can remain with your kids while you move through the treatment process.

The treatment here is offered in a residential setting and allows you access to 24/7 care and support from the staff here. Your individualized treatment plan will use a variety of evidence based therapies. Some of these treatments include medication assisted treatment using FDA approved methadone or Suboxone. This type of treatment can help you navigate withdrawal symptoms associated with detox. It will also help you manage your cravings.

I also appreciate their dedication to providing quality care. For example, their counseling and support services are trauma informed. This allows you to be seen and heard as a recovering individual as opposed to just any patient who needs medical care.

Other services include counseling support with trained and experienced professionals. Motivational interviewing is a therapy that’ll help you gain the skills to feel empowered in your recovery process. You'll begin building healthy habits that will play a critical role in your sobriety. Other supports include access to medical and psychiatric care for other health concerns you may be experiencing.

What I appreciate most about this facility is the level of support you'll find as a mom. For example, there is parenting skills development that can help enhance your parenting abilities. You can be supported with other services like aftercare planning. There are also housing services for when you complete your treatment. You can also find legal support here if you need it. Other supports offered include access to community resources that can help improve your overall quality of life.
