About Valley Star Crisis Residential Treatment Center The STAY

In San Bernardino, California, you can find Valley Star’s Crisis Residential Treatment Center which they call "The Stay." This is essentially a short term, 14 bed center for transitional age youth who are in crisis in that area.

The facility is located in northern San Bernardino, not far from downtown and just a few blocks from Perris Hill Park. Something I found unique about it is that it's the only facility of its kind in the entire state. They help with substance abuse issues as well as mental health disorders or co-occurring conditions.

Bridging the Gap for Transitional Age Youth with Addiction

You can get help at this residential facility if you're between the ages of 18 and 25, up to your 26th birthday. They assist people who need a high level of care but not as high as a psychiatric hospital. In order to qualify, you must be non-violent and not a sex offender. You also have to be okay with the fact that you'll be sharing your space with other people. If you attend, expect to be an active participant in their recovery plans and the activities they provide.

Something else that stood out to me is that, since it's a residential treatment facility, you'll have mental health support 24 hours a day as long as you admit yourself voluntarily. You can benefit from services such as individual and group counseling as well as psychiatry. They incorporate peer support and emphasize keeping you involved in the community. You can also get help creating your own Wellness Recovery Action Plan.

It stood out to me that they are inviting and inclusive of people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. If you have any interest in finding housing, education, vocational services or healthcare, they can help in these areas as well. The facility is available for people with or without Medi-Cal, and you can stay for up to 90 days.
