About Portland VA Medical Center Vancouver

At the VA Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington, veterans and their families can access help for all manner of substance use issues, from binge drinking to a life-threatening chemical dependency. They help veterans on their recovery journey via residential and outpatient (OP) services, with personalized treatment plans to match each clients’ specific needs. The great thing is that clients aren’t required to be clean to access substance use services at the Vancouver VA Medical Center, but a referral is required.

Outpatient services include individual counseling, group and family therapy, addiction education, readjustment counseling, medication management, and psychiatric treatment for additional mental health concerns, such as anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress disorder. Some services are available 24/7.

Additional services include gender-specific treatment, overdose prevention education, and drug and alcohol monitoring. Outpatient clients may also receive referrals for financial assistance, housing support, additional medical treatment, and chronic pain management if necessary.

The VA Recovery House inpatient program has its own building on campus. This program is individualized and includes group and one on one therapy sessions. During treatment counselors will help you manage medical issues and obtain employment. Each day you’ll participate in six hours of structured activities.

Also at the Vancouver VA location is Fisher House, which offers a “home away from home” for the families and loved ones of veterans who have outpatient appointments at the Vancouver Center or are participating in the Residential Rehabilitation and Treatment Program. Fisher House features 16 private suites with private baths and all necessary amenities such as internet, TVs, and a DVD player.
