About VA Nebraska Western Iowa Health Care System
The Bellevue VA Clinic was in Bellevue, Nebraska, but it relocated to Papillion and is now the Sarpy County VA Clinic. The clinic is part of the Veterans Administration healthcare system and is an outpatient satellite of the nearby Omaha VA Medical Center, only eight miles away. The Sarpy County VA Clinic offers primary care services, as well as specialty care that includes mental health and addiction treatment. You can pay for services with many major insurance plans, as well as Medicaid, Medicare, and military insurance such as TRICARE.
Addiction and Mental Health Treatment for Veterans
Papillion is a suburb of Omaha that offers recreation areas, city parks, and a historical walkable downtown area. You can even take a self guided walking tour of 21 historical markers or a serene stroll through the Fontenelle Forest nature center.
The VA Center here gets good reviews, with clients feeling that it’s a great addition to the community. One client mentioned that it’s a “very nice facility.” Another said they have “much needed services for our vets.” They’re welcoming to all, including those in the LGBTQ+ community.
The clinic offers addiction and mental health treatment services, and clients can get same day help. I think it’s great that some Veterans may qualify for services even without being enrolled in the VA system.
Veterans dealing with grief, anger, trauma, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and more can get help at the clinic. They offer evidence based treatment modalities for substance use and co-occurring mental health issues.
Additionally, if you need inpatient addiction or mental health treatment, you’ll be given a referral to the nearest inpatient treatment center.
Integrating Primary Care and Supportive Treatment Services
One thing I noticed about the clinic is how they integrate primary care with supportive services. There are transportation services that help Veterans get to and from their medical appointments.
Another helpful service is the My HealtheVet app to manage your records, appointments, medication refills, lab tests, and more. This is a web based tool where you can ask questions and receive secure information from your provider.
Amenities
In order to maintain a sense of autonomy, many private rehab facilities offer clients the ability to choose their own private rooms. The privacy and personal space ensure that the recovery process is as comfortable as possible.
Addiction treatment in the metro area benefits clients by offering seamless connections from the city, around the state, and those seeking out-of-state treatment. Another benefit of attending a metro area drug rehab is that you’re close to major airports and ground transportation services.
Business centers are a preferred amenity in many mental health and addiction recovery facilities and typically feature secure, high-speed internet, computer stations, printers, and related business technologies. Business centers are designed to enable professionals and students to continue to participate in work or school activities without leaving the treatment facility.
