Urban Ounce of Prevention is located in a quiet corner in suburban Akron, Ohio. They’ve been around since 1990. You’ll have plenty of privacy as you receive care for mental health and substance use disorders. They’re certified by the Ohio Department of Medicaid to provide services to Medicaid enrollees. They have four programs available.
Their Exodus program is a cultural outpatient program for women. They provide intensive and non-intensive group counseling as well as crisis interventions and case management. They also help with housing assistance, childcare, transportation and other supportive services that you might need. They work with people who have co-occurring disorders as well.
Crossroads is an outpatient program for men and includes the same services available in the Exodus program. Their hope program is for both men and women that focuses on helping people develop healthy coping skills. In both tracks, participants will learn how to stop self-destructive behaviors. It will learn tools and get skills so that they can reach their goals and be satisfied with their life. They provide individual counseling and day treatment. They also provide crisis intervention and pharmaceutical services.
Their New Beginnings program aims to help families become reunited when children have been separated from their parents and placed in custodial care. They help participants address alcohol and drug use problems, domestic violence, creating healthy parent child relationships and infant mortality and low birth weight.
Urban Ounce of Prevention also offers youth programs designed to give young people positive role models and educate them about alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention. There are computer lab workshops and awareness programs. Youths can also participate in activities that prepare them for academic excellence and leadership positions in the community. This is an after-school program that includes field trips, college tours, summer camps, African dance and drumming classes, and community service.
