About United Services Willimantic

United Services Willimantic is a CARF accredited treatment center located in Willimantic, Connecticut. They provide services to children, adults, seniors, veterans and their families who are struggling with substance abuse disorders and mental health conditions. They were established in 1964, and since opening they have continued to provide ongoing support, high quality care, treatment and programs throughout the North eastern area of Connecticut. If you are bilingual or if Spanish is your primary language, they have Spanish interpreters, and they have Spanish speaking therapy groups.

When transitioning into a life of sobriety, experiencing withdrawals and cravings can be both highly uncomfortable and overwhelming. Their medication assisted treatment (MAT) program provides prescription medication to alleviate these symptoms. Other services provided in this program include peer recovery support, therapy and employment specialist support.
What sticks out to me the most is the variety of different evidence based therapies they utilize during therapy. This can help you learn to manage symptoms, develop coping skills and boost self resilience. Some of the therapies utilized here are motivational interviewing, seeking safety (trauma informed model), solution focused therapy, and trauma recovery empowerment model (TREM).

If you are concerned about your mental health and want a proper diagnosis, their psychiatric services can assist you with completing a psychiatric evaluation, medication evaluation, medication management and medication monitoring. Their team of clinicians can assist you with tools that can help you get more of a handle on day to day life and provide more healing during times of challenges and unexpected changes.

Their group treatment creates an opportunity for you to work with a therapist and other peers who are on the same or similar journey as you. It can make the journey less lonely, especially by being able to identify with others and feel like you’re part of a community. Some of the topics discussed can include gender specific concerns, developing social skills, stress management, relationships, depression and anxiety.

Their location in Willimantic offers quick access to a variety of activities for sober outings with your peer group. This includes state parks, specialty museums, adventure parks and a bowling alley. For individual reflection during recovery, you’ll find nearby gardens and hiking trails.
