About The Gavin Foundation – Devine Recovery Center
The Gavin Foundation - Devine Recovery Center is a peer based community program in Boston, Massachusetts. This program is rooted in community support and shared experiences. They provide a nonjudgmental setting where adults with similar challenges support each other through open dialogue and encouragement.
They emphasize mutual aid rather than professional led treatment that characterizes clinical models. You’ll learn from others’ experiences, gain insight into your own struggles and develop accountability through group connections. The goal is to build strong coping skills, promote personal growth and guide each other toward a life without substance dependence.
This program is free to join and worth considering especially if you live in the Boston area. There are no therapists or counselors leading the sessions. It is totally peer driven. Members create and plan all events and activities. Monthly community meetings give you the opportunity to participate in the planning process. You’re encouraged to give back by volunteering or sharing your experience, strength and hope with peers. It’s all about feeling understood, accepted and encouraged by those who’ve faced similar struggles.
Through shared stories and support, peers motivate each other to stay on track and remain resilient. The program is characterized by peer activities like coffee hours, meditation and yoga. They also offer group meetings like recovery groups for men and women and AI Anon which relies on peer sponsorship. The program is especially effective in reducing isolation and increasing motivation since a shared journey creates a strong ongoing support network.
