About Summit County Public Health Fairway Center
Summit County Public Health offers various programs to improve health and safety for drug users in Akron, Ohio. They participate in a safe syringe exchange. You can anonymously receive sterile syringes and other supplies while also getting access to naloxone and HIV/HEP C testing. If you want a referral to more traditional treatment like counseling, they can give you one.
This program is offered at the Fairway Center every Friday. Everyone is encouraged to bring used syringes for proper disposal. It’s a safe and friendly environment where you won’t be judged or looked down upon. You can also get access to wound care here during the safe summit program. I like that the Community Health Center has vending machines with free naloxone for anyone to take.
Project Dawn offers overdose prevention and drug education to the community. This community program gives interested clients access to training so you can recognize the signs of overdose. You’ll be trained on how to give Naloxone and perform rescue breathing.
