About Addictions Help Center
Self Help Movement is an accredited alcohol and drug rehab facility based in northeastern Philadelphia. Support is offered to adult men aged 18+ of all ethnicities and backgrounds. The three main levels of care provided here are high intensity and low-intensity residential inpatient, and a sober living house.
Something that stands out about Self Help Movement is the sheer range of treatment offered under its three main services. While a lot of it is fairly standard: individual and group therapy, case management, on-site medical and psychiatric assessments, and life skills education, there’s also much more. The program really takes into account its clients’ full scope of needs, offering rounded and holistic care in the form of physical fitness activities, art and music sessions, and meditation.
Spirituality and wellness services and counseling are offered for both non-denominational and specific faiths to ensure relevant care for people of all beliefs and backgrounds. 12-step and other support groups feature to provide a further sense of community, while rooming can be individual, with up to two people sharing at once to allow just enough privacy and space for self-reflection.
Their sober living housing also seems ideal for anyone who needs that extra little bit of support post-recovery. Those who stay in this accommodation must be employed, or seeking employment since the goal of this housing is to be a stopover, not the destination. Self-sufficiency and independence in medical, psychiatric, and legal matters are expected, while the set-up offers structure, rules, and curfews that may be helpful to those easing back into a sober lifestyle. Where relevant, case management is accessible for those who need a bit of extra help securing independent housing, work, and more.
In general, former clients are largely positive, expressing gratitude for life-changing experiences that resulted in life-long friendships, a sense of brotherhood, and knowledgeable staff. Many come away feeling well-equipped and prepared to rejoin society and ready to rebuild their lives.
