About UnityPoint Health Des Moines Powell Chemical Dependency Center

The Powell Chemical Dependency Center is part of UnityPoint Health. This center is located at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa. The organization is licensed through the Bureau of Substance Abuse with the state of Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. They are an alcohol and drug treatment center. Services are provided for adults who are 18 years and older. Medicaid is accepted. They also offer a sliding scale fee for those who do not have insurance.

You will need to schedule an appointment to begin your evaluation and assessment. Their residential and outpatient programs are abstinence based. They also have specialty groups. Based on your needs, you’ll move in between levels of care.

I do like that they also have services for your family members and loved ones. They have a family support group. The group meets up twice a week, and it's for individuals who have been negatively affected by addiction.

There is also a family recovery program. In this program, families come together in a group setting for education. This is a 12 week program that meets two times per week for two hour sessions.

When you have graduated from your treatment program, there is the option to continue care through aftercare programs. The continuing care program offers an array of support. You are able to attend codependency education, individual therapy, peer support groups and therapy groups that are counselor led.

Their aftercare program stood out to me. They have 18 volunteer led growth groups. I also like that they have day and evening groups available.
