About Northwest Passage Prairieview

Northwest Passage’s Prairieview campus is located on 25 acres of land surrounded by lakes and woods in Frederic, Wisconsin. They are a residential program for gender diverse and females between the ages of 12 to 17 years of age who are struggling with co-occurring and substance abuse disorders. They have 24 beds and stays typically last around 6-10 months.

They were established in 1978 and their unique approach to providing healing for adolescents, teenagers and their families is to combine clinical care for mental health as well as art and holistic therapies.

When you reconnect with your child during an outing or when treatment is completed, you guys can reconnect and check out history museums, art galleries, and parks within the area.

They create a safe, secure, and dorm-like atmosphere with a variety of amenities for your child to do like nature trail walks, a gymnasium, a fitness center, a greenhouse, a playground, and a hammock village.

They will complete neuropsychological testing, psychiatric services, medication management and monitoring, and provide medical care as well.

During the duration of your child’s stay they will work with highly skilled and licensed teachers, therapists, and medical staff available to help your child gain more manageability in day to day life, develop coping skills, and create healthier connections with others. They incorporate SMART recovery, dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and group and individual counseling.

What sticks out to me the most is the variety of outdoor adventures they incorporate as part of their residential treatment here which include coneing, hiking, equine therapy, and doing volunteer work at the nursing home. This helps your child help assist others and also enjoy time in nature.

Prior to being discharged, they will discuss with you and your child outpatient treatment and assist in aftercare planning. After being discharged from the residential program, a case manager will continue to follow-up weekly to make sure your child’s needs are being met and connect with her school to assure they have a smooth transition.
