About Navajo Regional Behavioral Health Center

Navajo Regional Behavioral Health Shiprock (NRBHS) is a substance use disorder (SUD) and mental health counseling facility that is managed by the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, New Mexico. This facility provides a variety of outpatient and residential solutions to help overcome addiction. Additionally, I noted that NRBHS provides care for special populations including youth, pregnant or postpartum women, LGBTQ+ members, veterans, and those with co-occurring mental or pain disorders.

Diversity in Treatment

One key feature I appreciated with NRBHS is the variety of care they provide. You can choose between two inpatient or residential programs, as well as two outpatient strategies. For residential programs, you can choose between the short and long term options. Meanwhile, the outpatient program can include traditional or intensive programs (IOP).

Another notable aspect is the variety in counseling. This includes individual, group, and family sessions as well as crisis counseling and intervention services. Additionally, I discovered that this facility provides dual diagnosis care for individuals struggling with either pain or mental health disorders that may have contributed to their addiction.

Alternative Therapies

Along with counseling, I like that you can take advantage of faith based services, adventure counseling, telemedicine and teletherapy, and holistic services. This can include acupuncture, as well as access to care for other mental health needs and support with building social skills.

Along with these programs, you can explore the area on your own. Shiprock is close to some local attractions like Shiprock Pinnacle and the Four Corners Monument. Drop by the Navajo Nation Museum or Chaco Culture National Historical Park to see some historic sites and partake in cultural activities.

Trauma Informed Care

A variety of factors can trigger substance abuse and NRBHS understands that trauma is one of the biggest underlying factors. This facility can assist with trauma informed care for individuals who have experienced sexual abuse or domestic violence. Additionally, NRBHS also works with the criminal justice system to provide solutions for those facing DUI or DWI charges.

This facility accepts state financed health insurance plans, Medicaid, IHS/Tribal/Urban (ITU) Funds, federal and government funding for treatment programs, SAMHSA funding and block grants, and provides payment assistance options.
