About Native American Connections
Native American Connections is a nonprofit addiction treatment provider licensed by the Arizona Department of Health Services, offering residential and outpatient substance use disorder treatment in Phoenix.
The organization integrates traditional Native American healing ceremonies with evidence based therapies to treat adults, single parents and families affected by addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Founded in 1972, I think it's remarkable that Native American Connections serves over 10,000 individuals annually across 24 sites in the Greater Phoenix area with culturally responsive care open to all community members.
Tradition Meets Treatment
Native American Connections specializes in blending centuries old Native American healing practices with modern addiction treatment approaches. Residential and outpatient programs incorporate Sweat Lodge purification ceremonies and drumming, cultural activities and sacred traditions alongside clinical care for substance use and co-occurring behavioral health disorders.
Treatment combines cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma counseling, motivational interviewing and relapse prevention with traditional healing that addresses mind, body and spirit recovery. Programs include individual and group therapy, family therapy, medication management and 12 Step meetings.
I think it's important to note that the organization also accept clients on opioid maintenance medication including methadone and Suboxone. Recovery housing with live in coaches supports ongoing healing through Intensive Outpatient participation and in house support groups.
Support for Underserved Communities
Native American Connections dedicates over 50% of behavioral health resources to Native American communities while serving all homeless and low income populations experiencing health disparities.
Beyond addiction treatment, the organization provides a full continuum including mental health services, healthcare and over 1,000 units of affordable housing throughout Maricopa County.
