About Roof Above 1210 N. Tryon Street Men’s Shelter

Roof Above, previously known as Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, is making a significant impact right in the heart of Charlotte, North Carolina. After merging with Urban Ministry Center they’ve broadened their mission to tackle homelessness and addiction through comprehensive and compassionate care. Their SABER program stands out to me because it offers specialized substance use treatment for men experiencing homelessness and battling addiction.

Life Changing Recovery with SABER

The SABER program which began back in 2006 is unique because it not only addresses addiction but also provides stable housing. The stable housing that is offered is rent free for up to nine months.

What I personally appreciate the most about this program is how clearly structured and thoughtfully designed it is. It kicks off with three intrusive months packed with psychoeducation classes, individual and group therapy and even wellness activities like yoga and gardening. They understand that recovery isn’t just about stopping substance use. It’s also about rebuilding confidence and healthy routines.

Their approach genuinely works, with a proud 85% completion rate boasted by Roof Above for the first three months. Even more impressive is their long term success, with 55% of their clients remaining sober after nine months.

Supporting Recovery with Compassion and Practicality

Phase two, known as Continuing Care, helps men transition into employment, further job training or education. The blend of consistent therapy and accountability through regular drug testing and incentives like gift cards for achieving weekly goals I think really speaks volumes about their understanding of motivational psychology. Plus the Roof Above’s dedication to helping men achieve recovery has been long supported by the ABC Board.
