About KidsPeace Broadway Campus

The KidsPeace Broadway campus in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, provides support services for foster and biological families. Kids can receive direct therapeutic support in partial hospitalization (PHP) and outpatient settings, while adults can work on improving relationships and parenting skills. While these programs don’t provide substance use disorder care directly, other programs offered by KidsPeace do.

Strengthening Families

The Broadway campus serves as an extension of the organization's mission to strengthen families by supporting independence. Children who have trouble at home or school will find supportive environments here where staff collaborate with them to address their problems and support their growth as individuals.

I think the PHP option is especially important because it provides an alternative to hospitalization while having an education component to support continued success in school.

Modified Matrix Model

I find KidsPeace’s approach to substance abuse treatment interesting. They use a modified version of the Matrix Model, an approach that addresses needs through therapy, motivational interviewing, and peer support and socialization. However, their take is specially tailored to address the needs of youths.

A byproduct of the Matrix Model is increased self esteem, something that’s used to encourage better decision making in recovery. I can see how using this model can help a child’s growth beyond their addiction and behavioral health needs.
