About Hickey House

Since 1986, The Hickey House has been a long-term residential sober living facility for men in the early stage of recovery from drug and alcohol use. They provide a safe and highly structured living space where clients can build life skills for sustained recovery. The entire facility comprises several small houses located within a small radius. They’re located just outside semi-rural Helen in Georgia at the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River.

Nearby North Georgia mountains add natural beauty and calmness that makes your recovery experience here exciting. The houses are also within walking distance of job opportunities, outdoor fun and convenient access to anything you may need.

They’re designed to help those who have just completed detox and inpatient rehab. They grant you an opportunity to tackle psychological, spiritual and physical health challenges that may impede recovery. This is all while learning independent skills that encourage a sober lifestyle and relapse prevention. They even accept referrals from the criminal justice system.

Certain rules and guidelines are put in place to provide structure. You must adhere to those rules. You’re also expected to participate in the house chores, pay rent on time and abide by the curfew. This helps you build discipline, accountability and personal responsibility.

You’ll be subject to random drug and alcohol tests weekly to ensure compliance with treatment guidelines. The program also involves 24/7 accountability monitoring.

Attending 12 Step meetings is a must. This includes both in-house and outside self-help groups. Transportation is available for outside meetings. You’re free to attend the group of your choice.

The program is grounded in vocational skills development as well. You’re required to maintain full time gainful employment to develop vocational skills and balance in recovery. Many work opportunities are available. Residents assist each other in finding work and transportation.

They assist residents with legal issues in accessing local community resources to fulfill court obligations. They also encourage positive relationship building, effective communication and problem solving skills.

You’ll benefit from outdoor recreational activities like hiking, kayaking, and fishing. Others include volleyball, trailing, movie outings and fitness exercises. You might have an excursion to nearby Northside Park & Picnic. These all make your healing journey fun-filled and super exciting.

You’ll graduate from the program after 12 months of active participation in the house activities. You’d pick up the skills to live independently, maintain sobriety and handle your responsibilities as you reenter the community.
