About Grace House Center for Human Development
Located in Northampton, Massachusetts, Grace House is a residential treatment program for moms with substance use disorder. It’s operated by the Center for Human Development. The organization understands that it’s a unique challenge for mothers to care for themselves while caring for their children. They have room available for 14 families and strive to provide their residents with a safe and nurturing environment.
Some of the things you can enjoy in Northampton are the Smith College Botanic Garden and the Norwottuck Rail Trail nearby. Smith College’s athletic fields may also be accessible. The town is also just a half hour outside of Springfield, Massachusetts.
One thing I really like that this facility does is encourage their residents to share their resources and create a close knit sober community. I also noticed that the Grace House recovery program is funded by the Department of Public Health, which may mean some or all of the services are provided at no cost to you.
Your schedule will primarily consist of individual sessions with your counselor, group therapy and recovery meetings. Your individual counselor will guide you in understanding your addiction and help to make sure you’re fulfilling your treatment goals. They may use evidenced based therapeutic approaches like dialectical (DBT) and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to change negative thoughts hindering your recovery and develop your coping skills.
With the care of your children being just as important as your own wellbeing, the facility offers you high quality childcare and helps you maintain custody of your kids. Additionally, they offer you GED prep courses and tools for getting back into the workforce, so you’ll have the best chance to acquire employment and be able to support your family. Grace House ultimately wants to see you become a healthy role model for your children.
