Good Shepherd Mission

Good Shepherd Mission HOPE House is a residential men’s addiction program designed to provide a sober living experience for people battling substance use disorders (SUDs) in Huntsville, Texas. This facility only works with adult men, and requires a minimum six month commitment to participate in the program. Because it is a faith based program, daily activities include required faith centered activities such as Bible study and church services.

Good Shepherd is located in downtown Huntsville and is near several popular parks. This includes Sam Houston National Forest and Huntsville State Park which are excellent green spaces for outdoor excursions. You can also visit the Gibbs-Powell Home Museum or the Sam Houston Memorial Museum for cultural exposure.

I found that HOPE House is an immersive residential program focused on helping adult men who are battling addiction overcome that disorder and build the toolsets required to overcome it. The long term program is centered around structure in a sober living space that helps men to refocus their minds while also giving them purpose and teaching them how to navigate life when they graduate. 

A Faith Based Approach

I discovered that there are no detox services offered here. As such, it’s best to have already completed detox elsewhere before applying for the program. Christianity is woven into daily life through an emphasis on spiritual growth. 

Meanwhile, you’ll still receive counseling services which are offered in individual and group settings. To participate in HOPE House, you must agree to participate in work therapy which may include maintenance, cooking, and community outreach programs.

Comfortable Accommodations

HOPE House is designed with a dormitory format and shared living spaces. This also includes a shared kitchen and laundry facilities. HOPE House does not charge residents to participate in the program and relies instead on donations, grants, and community support.
