About Good Shepherd Mission
Good Shepherd Mission is a Christian nonprofit organization in Huntsville, Texas, serving vulnerable populations with addiction recovery support, food and shelter. Huntsville is just North of Houston along Route 45, near the Texas Prison Museum, Sam Houston Statue and Huntsville State Park.
Services in Partnership with Businesses and Churches
Good Shepherd is funded privately through area businesses, churches, individuals and the thrift store. The majority of their clients are local and one third are elderly. I like that they partner with local businesses and churches to provide services, including food banks and clothing vouchers. Hot meals are provided every day free of charge.
Sober Living Lodger Program
The lodger program is a sober living environment where they help individuals who are homeless regain employment and find housing. They use education and spiritual growth to help you navigate the challenges of daily life. I like that they support individuals new to the program by not allowing them to leave the property without supervision for the first 30 days. This can help reduce triggers and maintain sobriety.
This demonstrates a commitment to following the rules and ensures you don't have access to drug or alcohol sources. The lodger program features a dormitory format with shared living spaces in a communal kitchen.
While they don’t offer detox or medication assisted treatment, they do provide high levels of social support and a sober living environment for a small group of individuals, which allows for a more personalized environment.
