About Exodus Homes

Exodus Homes is a transitional housing program in Hickory, North Carolina. It’s a faith-based agency for the United Way that serves people in recovery who are homeless and need somewhere safe and sober to stay while transitioning out of residential rehab. They also serve people who are transitioning out of prisons and back into the community.

This location is the organization’s corporate headquarters but the housing itself is in residential homes throughout the area. They have a total of 73 beds across nine different locations including some homes for men and some for women.

The main goal here is to give you accountability and stability while you also have the freedom to lay down a foundation for an independent life by securing a job, connecting with community resources, and otherwise creating your new life in recovery. But what I think is impressive about this as opposed to most transitional homes is the amount of added support they have here.

Part of this is their vocational training program. During your stay, you’ll work with one of the program’s corporate sponsors to gain work experience and learn vocational skills. They also have life skills groups you can take advantage of like parenting groups and basic education as well as financial literacy. There are faith-based groups you can take advantage of if you want to too like Bible study groups but there are alternatives too if you prefer.

Along with all of this, they have strong support for your continued addiction recovery. They provide peer support groups like AA and NA and they have special groups here too for specific circumstances like a group for ex-offenders and relapse prevention groups. In these ways, this housing program can help you bridge the critical gap between residential rehab and living on your own in sobriety.
