About Community Connections – Ketchikan
Community Connections is a community service organization with the mission of providing support to encourage independence and quality of life in Ketchikan, Alaska. Ketchikan is known as Alaska's first city and the salmon capital of the world. For clients in recovery, it's a scenic island community within the Tongass National Forest that can be a form of recreational therapy.
Support Services for Common Relapse Triggers
Community Connections has been helping the community for 40+ years. The nonprofit human services organization provides a variety of support services that address common triggers for substance use relapse.
While they do not provide a substance use disorder treatment program, I like that the organization does offer services that help reduce the risk that individuals in recovery will begin using again. Many of the common triggers for relapse include lack of purpose, lack of employment and lack of housing.
Community Connections offers residential services, including apartments or neighborhood homes to help develop an affordable living arrangement that works for each client. I’m impressed that residential services can include drop in staff assistance or live in adult or family members to provide ongoing daily assistance.
Employment Assistance and Veteran Services
I saw that program staffers offer employment services, believing individuals with developmental disabilities have the right to work in a job that fits their strengths. We like that they help clients gain new skills and offer a job coach for on the job support to help the client maintain their employment.
Community Connections y also offer veteran assistance, designed specifically to address the needs of individuals who have served our country. This nonprofit organization offers the opportunity for people in the community to assist with donations, through a holiday sock drive or by dropping off A&P receipts that can be submitted to the company for store credit.
