Community Health Centers runs multiple clinics in Vermont, including the South End Health Center in Burlington. This clinic offers outpatient care including dental care, medical services, and mental health counseling. The mental health program can support those with opioid use disorder by providing medication assisted treatment (MAT).

This clinic accepts Medicaid and Medicare as well as other insurance plans. They also have a sliding scale of fees for those without insurance. Something neat I discovered is that the sliding fee application is available in seven different languages.

Mental Health Support For All Ages

Mental healthcare is available at the South End Center for people of all ages. The specialized staff starts by assessing your mental health or substance use to determine how best to help.

From there you can participate in traditional evidence based counseling while also learning how to manage your mental health more effectively. I like that the social workers can also connect you to a variety of community resources including help with housing, coordination of your care and assistance with benefits.

If you’re a new patient, you can call and schedule an appointment with one of their primary care doctors. Once care is established, they can refer you to counseling internally. If you are already a patient, you can talk to your doctor about your counseling needs.

Medication Assisted Treatment for Opioid Disorders

The South End Center also provides MAT for those with opioid use disorder. This program combines Suboxone with substance use education, counseling and other care to help you stabilize and avoid relapse.

The goal is that the medication helps you manage cravings so you can focus on finding the root causes of your substance use and address them. This may mean overcoming trauma or learning new mindsets about yourself and the world. Over time, the goal is for you to be established in stable long term recovery.
