About Mid-Fairfield Community Care Center

The Mid-Fairfield Community Care Center, in Norwalk, Connecticut, provides a variety of outpatient services for children, adolescents and their families. This includes mental health treatment, services for teens with substance use concerns, and school or community based treatment options.

The center accepts Medicaid and some private insurance plans. They also work with families who have no insurance to ensure services are affordable.

DBT For Teens With Substance Use Disorder

The Mid-Fairfield Community Care Center provides outpatient individual and group therapy. The evidence based approach that focuses on addiction is dialectical behavior therapy (DBT).

Adolescents will undergo an assessment with a DBT clinician to determine if it’s the appropriate treatment. The DBT program includes weekly individual counseling sessions as well as two hours of family counseling per week.

Your loved one will learn healthy coping skills such as mindfulness to help prevent them from relapsing. The program lasts for 16 weeks, but if necessary, the individual DBT sessions for the teen can continue beyond that. Along with regular sessions, the DBT program gives the teen access to an on call therapist for support when they get emotionally dysregulated.

School Based Programs for Youth

I like that Mid-Fairfield Community Care Center provides therapy services at Brian McMahon and Norwalk High Schools as well as some elementary schools. These services are free and are available in Spanish and English. Giving students in the community the emotional support they need can help reduce their chances of developing an addiction.

One unique program that caught my attention is the Latinx Integrated Care (LINC) Program for recently arrived immigrants. The program provides bilingual and culturally sensitive care coordinators to help immigrant families settle in the community. The services are free and are provided to students at six different schools.

It helps participants recognize triggers and unhealthy thinking patterns and create coping mechanisms to maintain sobriety.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT)

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an integrative, community-based care strategy designed to address the needs of persons with severe and/or complex mental illness or behavioral disorders. ACT is typically provided by a multidisciplinary team of medical and mental health care providers, social workers, therapists, and other specialists, including addiction recovery professionals. These services are frequently provided in the home and community to clients in crisis, those who are clinically unstable, and those who are unable or unwilling to travel to a hospital or clinic for in-person treatment.

Levels of Care

Outpatient Rehab

Many individuals turn to outpatient rehab in Connecticut after they complete an inpatient program. This treatment is less intensive and usually involves attending several counseling sessions per week and attending a support group such as NA or AA. Outpatient rehab may be short or long-term, depending on the needs of the individual.

Dual Diagnosis & Mental Health

When you have a co-occurring disorder, you have both a substance abuse disorder and a mental health disorder. Dual diagnosis in Connecticut specializes in treating both conditions simultaneously, which is crucial for successful recovery.
