About Charis Counseling LLC

Charis Counseling is an outpatient mental health facility located in Wausau, Wisconsin. They treat people for substance use disorder (SUD) and other mental health conditions. They accept private
insurance and self-pay. I like that they take payments through PayPal.

All of the therapists here are fully licensed. They incorporate a Christian worldview into treatment. This may include praying for the guidance of God or Christ in alleviating addiction or other mental health problems. Counselors provide in-office appointments and telehealth.

Treating a Wide Variety of Mental Health Issues

I noted that they offer group and individual therapy to people who struggle with SUD. They treat people of all ages. Groups are age-specific, so teens will be in one group and adults in another.

What I love about this place is all the different mental health conditions that the counselors specialize in. So many people with substance issues struggle with mental health issues or have survived traumatic experiences. For instance they have treatment programs that are based on helping people with post-traumatic stress disorder.

This therapy teaches people how to reprocess upsetting memories so they are less painful.
They treat eating disorders and sex addiction, both of which often go hand in hand with drug and alcohol consumption. They will teach people to think differently about their life circumstances to change their behavior.

Using Lesser-Known Therapeutic Methods

Most rehab facilities treat clients with some form of behavioral therapy, and this center is no exception. However, they also use alternative therapies such as the MyEverythingDiSC, which teaches people to communicate in a common language so they can understand themselves and their families better.

Therapists also use Gottman's Method of Couples therapy, which teaches people to communicate better and focus on what they admire about each other.

Art and music are mediums that connect with our feelings, making them a great recovery tool during addiction t...reatment. Studies show that combining art/music and drug rehab can have a greater therapeutic impact than drug rehab alone, as you’re able to access parts of your brain and body that you may not have access to during traditional talk therapy. Benefits of art/music therapy include lowering stress and anxiety, promoting healthy neurochemicals, and providing stress relief.
