The Charles Street halfway house is run and operated by Catholic Charities of Cortland County. This nonprofit human service agency focuses on providing services for people affected by substance use disorders, mental health challenges, poverty and at-risk youth.
This halfway house is a supervised residence that supports folks who’re transitioning towards independent living after stepping down from higher levels of care. They serve people with substance use disorders including those who have a dual diagnosis. This home can accommodate 14 adults and days can range between 6 to 12 months.
Residents will be expected to participate and engage in recovery activities including outpatient substance use programs. Residents will not use alcohol, drugs, tobacco and will be able to live in a group setting in a respectful and courteous manner.
Residents will work closely with a residential advisor who’ll help them create a recovery plan and set achievable goals toward independent living.
To be admitted to Charles Street, you must have a referral from a clinical professional. There are several other requirements that include some documentation and assessments, but the main thing is that you’ll need to be reviewed and approved by an admissions committee.
The cost for Charles Street residence is due monthly and can be paid through social security benefits, temporary assistance, or personal income. There is a sliding fee scale for those who self pay.
