Calvert Substance Abuse Services

Calvert Substance Abuse Services provides outpatient treatment for substance-dependent county residents, including adolescents and adults. Folks with co-occurring mental health issues are supported as well. This program is available at four county locations, including Harbor Road in Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. It’s just a short walk east of the Chesapeake Beach Railway Museum and south of Calvert County Hill.

Services include behavioral health assessment, intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and medication-assisted treatment (MAT). They can provide referral support to inpatient providers when clinically necessary.

They also offer substance use education and behavioral health support for school-aged children, with a focus on prevention and coping strategies. They’re approved and licensed to provide detention center treatment services for adolescents and adults involved in the justice system.

I like that they accept Medicaid and even offer discounted rates based on income for people without insurance. It’s also great that they serve adults and adolescents separately. Young adults are also seen separately to better meet their developmental needs, unless they have an extensive substance use history or legal involvement. In such cases, they may be placed with adults for more structured support.

Referrals are accepted from community treatment providers and criminal justice agencies. They also accept self-referrals.

Medication-Supported Opioid Recovery

MAT combines outpatient therapy with FDA-approved medication. Their opioid-dependent patients may be prescribed buprenorphine to ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings.

I like how you can build practical coping skills to prevent relapse. IOP offers a more structured yet flexible therapy if you require relatively intensive therapy to address underlying issues.

The broader program may address co-occurring mental health challenges that could impact your recovery. Random urinalysis and breathalyzer tests are used to track your progress. You’ll be referred to county agencies to handle personal needs like housing, employment or legal support.
