About Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare Residential

Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare is a community service board in Virginia that was established to provide support and treatment for Virginia residents. They treat children and adults with developmental disabilities, substance use, and mental health disorders.

Find Support in the Valley

One of their facilities, The Rita J. Gliniecki Recovery Center, on Hollins Road NE in Roanoke, Virginia, has 16 beds. Adults can receive short term inpatient stabilization and detoxification if appropriate. The facility accepts clients from Botetourt, Craig, Salem, Roanoke City, and Roanoke counties no matter regardless of insurance. The facility is LGBTQ+ friendly.

Clients typically stay at this facility for 3-15 days for the stabilization of behavioral health disorders that would otherwise result in hospitalization. They also detox clients from drugs and alcohol if necessary. The services include psychiatric care and skills training. They also have 12 Step groups on the premises. The treatment team develops a discharge plan to ensure continuity of care for clients as they transition to outpatient services.

Some clients come to this facility as a step down after inpatient hospitalization while others come here for stabilization. You’ll receive mental health and substance use assessments. The team also works to secure supportive services for housing, legal, social, transportation, and advocacy.

Programs to Suit Your Needs

While at the center, you’ll have individual, group, and family therapy as well as psychoeducational counseling. You’ll have a case manager to help coordinate your treatment and ensure your physical health needs are met. You’ll participate in eight hours per day of programming, including relaxation and recreational activities. You’ll receive three meals and three snacks a day.

One thing I like is their Project Link program, which helps women and families affected by substance use. It offers nine hours of intense group therapy for trauma along with a year's worth of support for perinatal care. It offers case management, therapy, parenting support, and a fatherhood program. They also have a perinatal group for pregnant and postpartum women.

This is a tobacco free facility but they’ll give you nicotine patches or gum. No cellphones are allowed but you will be able to make calls in the evening. When you enter the facility, they’ll wash your clothes and store a limited number of personal belongings. They also have an activity center, outdoor meeting spaces, and plenty of room to foster fellowship.
