About Beacon House
Since 1997, Beacon House in Louisville, Kentucky, has provided transitional housing for men dealing with substance use disorder including those transitioning out of incarceration. Operating under their three pillars of spirituality, living, and health, they offer a high level of support, structure, and accountability while allowing residents to maintain employment and connection with the outside community.
Referrals to Community Services
After completing inpatient care or the equivalent while incarcerated, transitional housing provides peer support and referrals to continuing recovery programs. I noticed these can include intensive outpatient programs (IOP), individual or family counseling, psychiatric evaluations and general healthcare, and even Vivitrol for medication assisted treatment (MAT).
Specialized Services for Recovery in Louisville
Opened by a Louisville couple looking for a local sober residential option for their son, the facility now boasts space for 50 recovering men. Providing structured housing with onsite case management, they envision themselves as more than just a halfway house. Embracing the values of fostering hope, treating with dignity, showing compassion, being accountable, and having a foundation of spirituality, they recognize that the real work begins upon leaving inpatient treatment.
Beacon House provides a transitional living model and life skills programming to prepare residents for sober living. I like how they partner with inpatient organizations across Kentucky, the department of corrections, and other chemical dependency professionals to offer paths for sober lives of meaning and dignity.
