About The Talbot House Louisville
The Talbot House in old Louisville, Kentucky, is a multi-step transitional housing program for men. They offer addiction recovery using the 12 Steps of AA. This program requires at least a commitment of 6 months and can accommodate 18 men in shared bedrooms. It gives guys a safe and structured environment to support their recovery from drugs and alcohol. This is an affordable recovery program that costs much less than the going rate for rent in the area.
I like that Talbot House is a 3-house program. All residents begin at Talbot House, which also houses the staff office. Here, they’ll stay around 2 months in a 2-4 person shared bedroom. You’ll need to bring your own clothes, bedding, personal hygiene items and food.
During your stay, you’ll be required to attend 7 AA or NA meetings every week. At least 3 of these will be onsite. You’ll also be responsible for finding a job, a sponsor and a home group within your first 2 weeks of admission. Each resident will have a daily and weekly chore to contribute to the running of the house.
After 90 days, you are eligible to transition to Wallace House. Then 6 months later, you can transition to the final step: Hoard House. Each new house gives residents more and more freedom so that they can confidently transition to living in the community. Yet, you still have all the supports of your recovery network nearby.
After 30 days in the program, you can earn a weekend pass to visit family. The Talbot House accepts clients with co-occurring disorders so long as they are under the care of a physician. Residents will need to manage and take their own medication. The houses’ staff members aren’t able to handle severe or untreated conditions, like schizophrenia.
