About Bashor Childrens Home

Bashor Children’s Home is a community based children’s welfare program operated by the United Methodist Church in Goshen, Indiana. Their services revolve around elevating children in need from various life altering circumstances including substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. I found that they are a faith based organization which may be reflected in some of their services.

Through their multiple levels of care, their mission remains the same: to establish healthy lifestyles for children, their families, and the greater community. As a result, these programs also emphasize family education and involvement.

Some of this organization’s programs are free, while others have an out of pocket cost.

Teen Diversionary Program

Key among their many community based offerings is the teen court program. It’s a straightforward diversion program that sees teenage offenders accept responsibility and consequences for their actions without having to experience the full legal system. There can also be an element of alternative sentencing enforced by the judge.

It’s not just the consequences of negative behaviors that can derail someone’s life. By offering an alternative to the typical juvenile court system, the program reduces the time a teen spends away from their normal life and can get them into treatment and support programs faster.

Ultimately, it’s a chance to correct criminal behaviors early, before they become a pattern. It’s available through court referral only.

Comprehensive Residential Care

The FAITH program offers holistic support geared toward a recovering client’s strengths. Teens and adolescents in this program experience flexible targeted care in a program that meets all of their needs in treatment, including education. Clients are supported as they transition to less restrictive levels of care and eventually back to their home lives.

Emergency Shelter

I appreciate that the Children’s Shelter can provide young clients with a safe place to live during tumultuous times. What’s great about this program is that it supports the child, their family, and any caregivers, and in addition to shelter, it works with clients on their treatment plans.
