About Leadership Development Program

Abraxis Youth & Family Services is located in South Mountain, Pennsylvania. It’s a residential, specialized behavioral health treatment center with adjacent substance abuse services.

Specialized Treatment Program

Their specialized treatment program is offered as a four phase curriculum in a residential setting. They mainly work with 11-16 year old males who have shown tendencies toward firesetting and have sexual behavior issues. They can also work with youth who show signs of neglect or abuse or have disruptive attachments and other mental health disorders.

If you’re placed here for firesetting or sexual behaviors, you’ll participate in their 12 month treatment track. If you’re placed here for other behavioral health problems, it’s a six month track. Something that stands out to me is that this program is in its second year of certification to operate as a specialized treatment center for youth who might be at risk for human trafficking or sex trafficking.

Residential Substance Abuse Treatment

They have an adjacent residential substance abuse program called Abraxis 1. It’s on a 90-acre campus that’s located in the Allegheny National Forest. They provide trauma-informed care for young women and men while educating them on how substance abuse can affect their lives, their families' lives and their future. I appreciate this educational component, since this can be crucial in helping young people understand the true impact of substance use.
