About Youth Academy LLC
Academy Programs serve at-risk children and youth in West Virginia. They run several schools including Youth Academy in Fairmont. This Academy provides residential and in-home services for minors with behavioral disorders. Students in Academy programs are often diagnosed with ADHD, substance use disorders, oppositional defiance disorders, or other issues.
Youth Academy takes kids who can’t stay in the home because of their issues. They accept youths between 12-21. Youth Academy is a Level II therapeutic residential program. They can house 12 male and 10 female students. It’s in a quiet corner of town, with the Tygart Valley River not too far away.
I like that this is a family-centered, community based program that provides students with intensive treatment with as few restrictions in their environment as possible. I am impressed that the student-teacher ratio is 5:1 and that they have a 50% minority enrollment.
This nondescript facility also offers an in-home program for kids who are at risk of out of home placement or who are returning home after being in placement. They offer an impressive number of services like supervised visitations, adult life skills, in-home family therapy, parenting education and more. This is an area of their offerings that I believe would be extremely useful to many clients.
One of the unique services I noticed about Youth Academy is that their philosophy is different from traditional therapy. They focus on creating days that promote a sense of health, self worth, and happiness. Their efforts focus on the importance of success living and continual learning so that students can succeed both academically and in their behaviors.
