About Yale Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Services New Haven

Located only a few miles from New Haven Harbor is Yale Adult Outpatient Psychiatric Services - New Haven. They provide intensive and general outpatient treatment for substance use disorders (including co-occurring disorders) and behavioral health concerns throughout the New Haven, Connecticut, area. This comprehensive program requires a referral from an outpatient provider or hospital. They accept many major insurance plans including Medicaid and Medicare.

This program provides comprehensive care through therapy and education three to four times a week. What's great about it is they host specific groups for certain conditions (like anxiety) and trauma. Their approach is to identify problematic behaviors and change them so you can better face challenges on the path to recovery.

Transitional Care Following Hospitalization

This program is designed in part to aid those who had a recent hospitalization. While the skills we learn during hospitalization are useful, the stay is short and it can feel like there wasn't much time to process what we've learned, let alone practice it. This outpatient program addresses this by providing a space to develop skills, work on new ones, and continue to address the underlying causes and symptoms of addiction.

Personalized Help in a Group Setting

Sometimes people hear "group treatment" and think everyone is being pushed through the same process, regardless of what their differences may be. That may be the case elsewhere, but at this facility, you'll learn how to address the problems that are personal to you. So, even though you're in groups, each member continues to walk their own path.

That brings up an interesting question: if your care is personalized, why work in groups at all? The groups give you the chance to learn from other people's experiences as well as share your own. In a way, it's practice for finding and participating in outside support groups, should you choose to do so.

Leave Treatment With a Plan

Your team will collaborate with you, your family, and providers to develop a plan to continue treatment and recovery through the use of additional programs, support groups and other community resources. I appreciate that you won't be left to your own devices, and the collaborative nature of planning means you may be introduced to wonderful resources you weren't aware of before.
