About Elms-Women’s Recovery Association

The Women’s Recovery Association in San Mateo, California strives to support the unique challenges women face throughout their lifetimes, including the ways that women experience addiction and recovery. The first residential treatment program began in 1973 and the association joined HealthRIGHT 360 in 2014 to support the right of health care to all.

Medical, mental health, and dental care are provided in addition to their residential treatment programs for substance use disorder. Residential treatment is provided to young adult women between the ages of 18 and 20, pregnant women, and postpartum women. The San Mateo treatment center also provides medication assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use treatment.

Inclusive and Encouraging Treatment

This inpatient program offers 24/7 support and includes crisis intervention, individual therapy, group therapy, case management, and drug and alcohol counseling. I appreciate that they’re specifically tailored to serving women, so not only will they help with trauma and other issues that are common among women with addiction, but you’ll also be able to feel safe and respected in a women-only community.

Local Spots for Families

The inclusion of family members is also encouraged for recreational activities during the recovery process. Some local spots for families to visit include Central Park and Coyote Point Recreation Area for walking trails, scenic views, and picnics. I love that these areas present opportunities for you to continue developing the strengthened relationships that you’re building in therapy together.

Resources for Reintegration

There are many services offered through HealthRIGHT 360 that help support you as you move through the process of recovery. For employment, they can help with many skills like mock interviews, application assistance, career counseling, and daily motivational meetings. Additional resources offered include financial planning, legal advocacy referrals, and second chance banking programs.
