About WestCare – VETcare Veterans Home and Resource Center

WestCare VETcare Veterans Home and Resource Center is a transitional housing and recovery support program in Salem, Oregon serving male veterans experiencing homelessness or re-entering the community after incarceration.

The 30 bed program combines secure housing, case management, mental health services and substance abuse treatment referrals for veterans in Marion and Polk County.

VETcare offers a gender responsive, trauma informed environment designed to help veterans rebuild routine, stability and self sufficiency.

Veteran Centered Support

VETcare's core specialty is veteran focused transitional housing paired with integrated recovery and reintegration services.

The program supports homeless and justice involved male veterans, including those with court ordered substance abuse treatment referrals in lieu of incarceration.

Participants engage in individualized case management, life skills training and group or individual counseling with mental health or chemical dependency professionals.

Referrals to traditional chemical dependency treatment, 12 step programming and VA or community medical resources help connect each veteran with the right level of care.

I want to note that one published success story describes how the structure, accountability and peer support helped a veteran stabilize after PTSD, substance use and housing loss.

Critical Time Intervention

I want to mention that VETcare uses the Critical Time Intervention model, a six month evidence based approach focused on continuity of care during high risk transitions.

This framework emphasizes harm reduction, crisis prevention, employment planning and long term housing stability to reduce the risk of relapse, rehospitalization or returning to homelessness.

Getting Connected to VETcare

VETcare operates in person at its Salem location on Center Street NE, serving veterans throughout Marion and Polk County with on site housing, shared amenities and a full commercial kitchen.

Program fees are based on a percentage of net monthly income, with coordination through VA healthcare, Oregon Health Plan or employer based insurance for medical needs.
