About Wellspring Womens Residential House

Established in 1981, Wellspring Women’s Residential House was Maine’s first halfway house for women. This therapeutic community in Bangor, Maine serves women aged 18 and older battling chronic addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions. You’ll benefit from a supportive, sober environment to focus on healing and restoration.

Their four to six-month program blends therapy, life skills training and education to help you achieve and sustain recovery. What stands out most to me is their welcoming environment. You’ll live in a tight-knit community with 14 other women on similar paths. Their sober living space provides all the comforts of home including cozy rooms, large common areas and a beautiful outdoor space.

Additionally, it’s great that they help you foster independence and accountability. While living with them you’ll play a vital part in keeping the community going. You’re responsible for completing daily chores and maintaining a neat living space. You’ll help with meal prep, mopping, vacuuming, making your bed, doing your laundry and more. These activities can teach you the significance of time management and maintaining responsibilities while developing independent living skills.

You’ll benefit from multiple therapeutic interventions to reach your recovery goals. They offer group, individual and family counseling, 12-Step meetings, specialized co-occurring disorder care, vocational and educational counseling and more. You can also access support service referrals to ensure you have appropriate resources to enhance your overall quality of life.

Another eye-catching feature is their psychoeducation groups. Group therapy can be fundamental in treatment to provide a safe, encouraging space to share your perspectives and learn from others. Groups focused on addiction and recovery, insight processing, family roles, gender, relapse prevention and more are available. You’ll develop essential coping skills to flourish in recovery while connecting with other women who understand your experiences.
