About Way Back
Located in San Diego, California, Way Back is a men’s residential alcohol and drug treatment program. They treat individuals dealing with both mental illness and substance use disorder. The program is designed to prepare you to deal with life’s challenges through positive behaviors and healthy coping skills.
Life at the Facility
Your day at the facility will include spiritual wellness walks, meditation and participation in education and clinical groups. All clients will be assigned a substance use disorder counselor who will assist them in all areas of the treatment process. You and your counselor will collaborate to determine a treatment plan that works for you.
I like that you’ll also be given time for volunteer work, job searching and personal time. All clients will be expected to follow established rules and participate in the daily upkeep of the home.
Located on A street, I noticed that the facility is not far from various nearby parks where you can relax on your personal time. It’s also near interesting attractions such as the San Diego Museum of Art and the San Diego Zoo.
Recovery Through Evidence Based Therapies
In group and individual therapy sessions, your counselor will use therapeutic approaches such as narrative therapy and dialectical behavior therapy to promote healing. Narrative therapy is designed to help you build a strength-based identity that allows you to achieve recovery in this next chapter of your life.
Dialectical behavior therapy will assist you with managing your emotions and decreasing conflict in your relationships. You’ll benefit from working with trained professional staff as well as peers who understand and relate to your experience.
